Price Increase and Discount Calculator

The price increase and discount calculator does three jobs at once: it applies a percentage increase or discount to a price and gives the new price, tells you what percentage the change between two prices is, and shows how much a discount takes out of your profit. When quoting a campaign price, the thing most often overlooked is that the discount comes straight out of profit.

If you fill in the purchase price, you also see the effect of the new price on your profit. If the discount pushes the margin below zero, the row turns red.

Calculation formula

Zam: Yeni fiyat = Fiyat × (1 + Oran ÷ 100)
İndirim: Yeni fiyat = Fiyat × (1 − Oran ÷ 100)
Değişim oranı: (Yeni − Eski) ÷ Eski × 100

A 20% increase after a 20% discount does not give the old price

If you apply a 20% discount to a ₺100 product it becomes ₺80; if you then raise ₺80 by 20% it comes to ₺96, not 100. Percentages don't reverse, because they are calculated on different bases.

The increase needed to return to the old price is 25%: 80 × 1.25 = 100. Watch out for this trap when restoring the price after a campaign.

How much does a discount take from profit?

On a product that costs ₺100 and sells for ₺145, unit profit is ₺45. A 10% discount (₺14.50) doesn't wipe out a tenth of the price but about a third of the profit — it drops from ₺45 to ₺30.50.

That is why you need to think of the discount rate in terms of profit, not price. If you fill in the purchase price field above, the tool shows this for you.

Order of steps when raising prices

When a supplier increase arrives, first update the purchase price, then find the selling price that protects your target margin. Adding the same percentage directly to the selling price quietly lowers your margin.

Frequently asked questions

What percentage discount can I give?

As much as your margin. If you work with a 31% margin on selling price, a 31% discount takes you to selling at cost; the safe limit is generally half of the margin.

How do I find the percentage increase between two prices?

Use the "Compare two prices" option. The formula: (New − Old) ÷ Old × 100.

How are chained discounts calculated?

Apply the first discount first, then apply the second to the result. A 20% + 10% discount comes to 28% in total, not 30%.

Can I do a bulk price increase?

For hundreds of products, use the product price list template; when you update the purchase price column, the selling prices are recalculated by formula.
